THE SOCIETY

September 17, 2012 · by saukenaukpreservationsociety

The Saukenauk Preservation Society was founded in November of 2003 by a group of local scouts who spent their youth at Saukenauk Scout Reservation.  This group of scouts felt the obligation to give back to a camp that had given them the best experiences of their lives.  They also felt the need to establish a way to raise money for Camp Saukenauk above and beyond what the local council provided to make it better for future generations of scouts and scouters.

The Saukenauk Preservation Society became incorporated in August of 2006 and was declared a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization by the IRS on April 18th, 2010.  Through tax exempt, charitable donations we raise funds for various programs and activities at Camp Saukenauk.  We also donate funds towards the construction and maintenance of new and existing facilities at camp.  Lastly, we continue to grow the camp endowment to ensure Saukenauk Scout Reservation will continue to offer exemplary scouting experiences to youth in the Quincy community and surrounding areas.

ABOUT CAMP SAUKENAUK

September 15, 2012 · by saukenaukpreservationsociety

SaukenaukCamp Illini (referred to as the Main Side) is designed for Boy Scout Troop long-tern Camp (summer camp) with a dining hall and all the other program areas needed for a summer camp program. These areas include a 40 acres lake with swimming beach and boathouse. A rifle range, health lodge, chapel, trading post, shower house and 10 campsites are some of the other features of this camp.

Camp Illiniwek (referred to as the Jambo Side) is covered with beautiful, huge pines. It was originally designed for troops wishing to do their own cooking. There are seven campsites. Many troops enjoy staying on the Jambo Side of the lake and walking to the main side for meals and program.

The rest of Saukenauk is set aside as Camp Iroquois (outside camping) and the Explorer High Adventure Area, all within easy walking distance. Both of these areas are unimproved by man and retain the grandeur and attractiveness of an ancient Eastern Hardwood forest.

FUNDRAISING BANQUET

September 15, 2012 · by saukenaukpreservationsociety

Every year, the Saukenauk Preservation Society hosts a fundraising banquet where supporters of Camp Saukenauk share a dinner together and tell stories of there favorite memories at camp.  The banquet is our largest fundraiser of the year and it continues to grow in attendance year after year, so we must be doing something right! Stay tuned for upcoming dates of the banquet and don’t miss out on the chance to catch up with fellow scouting friends from over the years.
